This programme is aimed at Maltese students who are in the final year or have recently obtained a master’s degree in an engineering, science, IT or business services subject.

The EGT programme offers a unique opportunity for Maltese students to gain professional experience working in the Space industry. It is an opportunity for candidates to work on important Space missions with some of the greatest minds in Europe. The EGT is the ideal platform to create strong working relationships, and to grow one’s network that can expand into a subsequent long-term career in the Space industry.

The exponential growth of the global Space sector means that many different industries are being integrated under its wings, due to dependency upon Space technology in daily commercial affairs. Employment in the Space sector is not just about building rockets, but also about policy, legal, commercial and data-driven work. That is why a career in the Space sector might not require leaving the Earth, but can be done through a laptop, tablet or mobile phone.

The EGT traineeship lasts for one year, with possible extension to two years, at one of several ESA sites around Europe. There are various benefits that graduates can enjoy, from exciting employment opportunities and monthly salaries which are exempt from national income tax in ESA member states, to reimbursement on initial and final travelling expenses when the contract starts and ends respectively. ESA also provides expatriation and installation allowances to cover the expenses involved inmoving to another country, plus a comprehensive health package offered under ESA’s social security scheme.

Those who are interested in applying for this initiative can find out more in the online sessions that will be taking place as follows:

5 February @ 12:00 CET – An explanation of the various entry-level programmes available at ESA through the ESA Graduate Trainee Programme 2026 ;

12 February @ 17:00 CET – Former ESA Research Fellow Maggie Leiu and other current EGT graduates will share their experiences about the application process, and other tips and advice on how to submit a successful application to EGT ;

17 February @ 12:00 CET – More information about the Young ESA initiative and their various activities, aimed to connect hundreds of young ESA professionals to work on common goals and sustainable projects, and at the same time enjoy industry social events. Learn more about the Young ESA initiative here.

By visiting the ESA – Career opportunities website, candidates can select the opportunities that interest them, and that fit their academic background accordingly.
