Research & Collaboration Opportunities in China

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations (ANSO) are offering a valuable opportunity for researchers and professionals through the CAS-ANSO Fellowship Program 2025. This initiative supports short-term visits and research stays at CAS institutions in China, with the aim of strengthening scientific collaboration and knowledge exchange across Belt and Road countries and beyond.

Fellowship Categories & Eligibility

The programme is open to applicants not based in mainland China, and offers three different categories based on professional level and background:

Category I – ANSO Partner Fellowship

  • Who can apply: Senior researchers and management staff from scientific and educational institutions. Priority is given to applicants from ANSO member countries.
  • Duration: 1–2 weeks
  • Support: RMB 10,000/week (pre-tax) + one-time round-trip travel subsidy

Category II – ANSO Visiting Scientist Fellowship

  • Who can apply: Assistant professors (including postdocs), associate professors, professors, or professionals at a comparable level.
  • Duration: 1–6 months
  • Support:
    • RMB 15,000/month (pre-tax) for assistant professors, postdoctoral researchers, or professionals at a comparable level
    • RMB 25,000/month (pre-tax) for associate professors or professionals at a comparable level
    • RMB 35,000/month (pre-tax) for full professors or professionals at a comparable level
      (All categories include one round-trip travel subsidy)

Category III – CAS-ANSO Alumni Fellowship

  • Who can apply: Graduates of the CAS-TWAS, CAS “Belt and Road” Master’s, or CAS-ANSO Scholarship programs, now working in science and technology fields within Belt and Road regions.
  • Duration: 1–2 weeks
  • Support: RMB 10,000/week (pre-tax) + round-trip travel subsidy

Application Details

  • All materials must be submitted by 24 April 2025. Late submissions will not be considered.
  • Activities funded under this Fellowship must be completed by 31 December 2026.
  • Applicants must not simultaneously apply for both the CAS PIFI Program and CAS-ANSO.
  • Applicants may only apply for one category of the CAS-ANSO Fellowship per application cycle.
  • Applicants who have received sponsorship through the CAS PIFI Program in 2023, 2024, or 2025 are not eligible for CAS-ANSO Fellowship funding.

 

How to Apply

  1. Secure a Host: Contact and receive agreement from a CAS researcher to host your visit.
  2. Prepare Your Documents:
    • Completed and signed Application Form (Attachment 1)
    • Digital passport-sized photo
    • Scan of your passport’s information page
    • Recommendation letter from CAS host
    • Research plan (background, objectives, timeline, expected outcomes)
    • For alumni only: UCAS/USTC diploma and scholarship proof
  3. Submit Through Host: Send your application package to your CAS host, who will submit it via the official platform.
