On October 18, 2024, Xjenza Malta, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), successfully hosted the PECS Info Day. The event provided participants with in-depth training and guidance on how to apply for ESA tenders under Malta’s PECS Agreement. A second call for project proposals is being opened for the receipt of proposals in the first quarter of 2025. This call offers opportunities for academia, public and private entities, to submit proposals related to space science, technology, innovation and capacity-building.
The workshop attracted a diverse audience, including stakeholders from academia, the public sector, and the private sector, all eager to explore opportunities within the rapidly emerging local Space eco-system. “This event marks a significant step in strengthening Malta’s participation in the space sector and enhancing collaboration with ESA,” said Dr Tonio Portughese, Chairman Consultative Committee Xjenza Malta. “We are excited to see Malta continue to build its capabilities in space research and eco-system development”.
In addition to the main briefing, participants were offered one-on-one meetings with ESA technical experts to discuss potential project proposals. These sessions provided invaluable insights into ESA’s processes and opportunities for collaboration in space research, technology, and applications.
