Malta has adopted its Position Paper on the 10th European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10), in anticipation of the start of official negotiations on its preparation. FP10, which will span from 2028 to 2034, is poised to play a crucial role in shaping the future of European research and innovation (R&I).

In this regard, the Maltese position on the 10th European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation 2028-2034 showcases Malta’s preliminary vision and priorities at this point in time.

The key messages from Malta’s position include: enhanced Widening measures; a simplified application process; expanded support for collaborative calls; reduction and streamlining of all calls; and increased international collaborations.

As the EU’s smallest Member State, Malta offers a distinct and valuable perspective, emphasising the importance of inclusivity, interconnectivity and excellence, while ensuring that all EU Member States can fully participate in, and benefit, from the sustainable, cutting-edge solutions enabled by the EU’s flagship research funding programme. This is crucial for enhancing the competitiveness and resilience of countries across the EU, and effectively addressing the challenges of the future.

Xjenza Malta, as the agency responsible for providing policy advice on research and innovation matters to Government, led the development of the Position Paper through a survey targeting the local research and innovation community, as well as a consultation event held on 11 September 2024.
