EP BrainHealth’s Joint Transnational Calls 2026 have now progressed to the Full Proposal stage.
For these call, Malta-based entities may still join existing consortia at this stage.

Opportunity to Join Existing Consortia
Consortia have been invited to include new research partners from the widening countries in their consortium. The inclusion of a partner from a widening country is optional and their national eligibility needs to be confirmed with the respective funding organisations before submission of the full proposal. The maximum number of research partners per consortium remains six or seven (if your consortium includes an underrepresented country, see call text) and cannot be exceeded even by widening.

The European Partnership for Brain Health (EP BrainHealth) gathers 54 partners from 33 countries, with the common goal of improving brain health for all by developing scientific knowledge as a foundation to promote brain health throughout the lifetime, to prevent and to cure brain diseases as well as to improve wellbeing of people living with neurological and mental disorders in Europe and beyond.
Xjenza Malta together with other Research Funding Organisations and co-funded by the European Union have launched the first Two Joint Transnational Calls to financially support R&I projects.
Malta-Based entities are eligible to apply for funds up to €500,000 per project, to join a consortium and submit a proposal to one of the following Calls:
- Call 1: Biological, social and environmental factors that impact the trajectory of brain health across the lifespan – in the field of neurological, mental and sensory disorders
- Call 2: Biological, social and environmental factors that impact the trajectory of brain health across the lifespan – in the field of neurodegeneration
Eligibility & Application Process
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Carefully review the relevant Call text and Guidance for applicants
- Be a Malta-based entity with an operating base in Malta in accordance with the National Rules for Participation (State Aid or Non-State Aid)
- Complete and submit a signed National Application Form and supported by the required Annexes as stipulated in the rules.

Application Deadlines
- Project coordinator needs to submit the pre-proposal via the BrainHealth Electronic Submission Tool by 10 March 2026, 14:00 CET.
- Each Malta-based applicant must submit a signed National Application Form to eusubmissions.xjenzamalta@gov.mt by 10 March 2026, 23:59 CET.
