M-ERA.NET is a European-funded initiative that supports research and innovation in materials science and battery technologies, aligning with the European Green Deal. The M-ERA.NET Joint Call 2026 is now open — with particular emphasis on clean energy technologies, future batteries, circular economy, and the integration of digital technologies.

Malta-Based entities are eligible to apply for funds up to €300,000 per project, to join a consortium and submit a proposal addressing one of the following topics:

  • Materials for energy storage and distribution systems
  • Materials for energy conversion
  • Innovative surfaces, coatings and interfaces
  • Innovative functional materials with defined architectures
  • Materials addressing environmental challenges
  • Next generation materials for electronics

 

Eligibility & Application Process

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Carefully review the relevant Call text and Guidance for applicants
  • Be a Malta-based entity in accordance with the National Rules for Participation (State Aid or Non-State Aid)
  • Complete and submit a signed National Application Form and supported by the required Annexes as stipulated in the rules. These annexes can be downloaded from the Xjenza Malta Resource Page.

Application Deadlines

  • Project coordinator needs to submit the pre-proposal via the M-ERA.NET Electronic Submission Tool by 12 May 2026, 12:00 CET.
  • Each Malta-based applicant must submit a signed National Application Form to eusubmissions.xjenzamalta@gov.mt by 12 May 2026, 23:59 CET.
