Funding Opportunity for Malta-based Researchers in Water Management, Farming Systems & Agro-Food Value Chain – Apply Now!
Malta-based entities are eligible to apply for up to €500,000 in funding, allowing them to join a consortium and submit a proposal for this Call (N.B. if multiple national partners are included in a single consortium, the total funding for all Maltese participants combined cannot exceed the €500,000 cap).
PRIMA Participating States fund transnational R&I projects addressing the scope and objectives of the PRIMA Section 2 multi-topic call tackling the following topics:
- Thematic Area 1: Water management in the Nexus
Topic 2.1.1- Leveraging Ecosystem Functions and Enhancing Water Allocation for the Protection and Restoration of Non-Perennial Watercourses in the Mediterranean
- Thematic Area 2: Farming systems in the Nexus
Topic 2.2.1- Novel remote and non-invasive ICT monitoring and control systems against disease and pest infestation
- Thematic Area 3: Food value chain in the Nexus
Topic 2.3.1- Empowering Mediterranean Food Value Chains through Context-Aware Digital Traceability
Eligibility & Application Process
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Carefully review the Call text 2026 and Guidance for applicants
- Ensure to form a consortium with eligible partners from PRIMA Participating States to be considered for funding. (PRIMA Participating States list can be found on the PRIMA website)
- Be a Malta-based entity with an operating base in Malta in accordance with the National Rules for Participation (State Aid or Non-State Aid)

- Complete and submit the National Application Form duly signed and supported by the required Annexes. These annexes can be downloaded from the Xjenza Malta Resource Page.

Application Deadlines
- Project coordinator needs to submit the pre-proposal via the PRIMA Electronic Submission System (ESS) by the 15 May 2026, 13:00 CET
- Each Malta-based applicant must submit a National Application Form to prima.xjenzamalta@gov.mt by the 15 May 2026, 23:59 CET

Support Scheme – PRIMA Training and Mobility Award 2026 (PTMA)
This scheme offers up to €8,000 to support collaboration with partners across PRIMA Participating States.
Funding supports:
• Short training or research placements abroad
• Strategic networking visits
• Knowledge-transfer seminars or workshops in Malta on PRIMA R&I themes
Submission deadlines:
- 7th July 2026 at 23:59 CET
- 6th October 2026 at 23:59 CET (final deadline)
